Vineyards in Bloom

The French style winery

Viñas en Flor, the winery that opened its doors in 2021 on the iconic Route 40 on the outskirts of Cafayate, amazes with its architecture.

A monumental French-style building overlooking the vineyards surprised us that harvest morning, a Saturday in March.

Together with Tamara Herraiz we had been visiting wineries in Cafayate in search of stories of women entrepreneurs in the world of wine. That is how we met first María and then Pimpi, two women from Salta who settled in the land of the sun to manage Viñas en Flor, a project they developed together with their husbands. María told us about the years of their youth that they lived in France and the influence that this time had on them for the development of their company.

The name that designates the winery is reflected in the hundreds of rose bushes located in each line of vineyards. The flower of the rose gardens is evident throughout the tour, in petals that adorn the entrance, in each bouquet that dominates each table of the restaurant, in each line of roses that watch over the vineyards and, of course, in the unique label of their bottles.

Trucks were arriving loaded with grapes and high-tech machinery was in the midst of the manufacturing process. Viñas en Flor's colossal tank room features stainless steel versions and huge cement vats.

In the below-ground cellar, the neat walls of stones collected from the estate are impressive, as is the contemporary architecture of the corridor where the oak barrels are lined up. A wide corridor connects it with the tasting room, elegant and sober. It was early... but we still tried the emblematic torrontés, the fresh rosé and the promising tannat.

Finally, a quick visit to the winery's gift shop, an excellent innovative store, which not only offers 1700 wines but also modern design objects of the highest quality.

We said goodbye with a goodbye, looking forward to enjoying the gastronomic proposal of the haute cuisine restaurant, any sunny afternoon in the valley. An option that will surely become a classic in the increasingly sophisticated Cafayate.
