Road to Rincón del Socorro

If it rains it is impossible to drive through: very few manage to pass, even in 4 x 4. After the rain, the motor grader passes by, whose shovel removes the pebbles from the earth, cuts them and makes them sharp. What if, in order to avoid a treacherous stone, the tire steps on a worse, hidden one? On our trip in the south-north direction, that is, from Mercedes to Rincón del Socorro, we came across a Volkswagen Vento with a blown tire, and just a little further on, an old Ford F100, one of those of a thousand battles in the countryside, also fallen in combat. Conclusion: one must be attentive, as far as possible not to exceed 50 kilometers per hour, in order to be aware of possible misleading rocks... but nothing is guaranteed, everything depends on the destination. The adventure imposed a code in the area that must be respected: anyone can stay and it is the duty of those who come behind to help them. An extra spice that makes the Esteros del Iberá even more fascinating. 

In the stretch from Rincón del Socorro to Colonia Carlos Pellegrini, be alert because on sunny days the caimans come out to the solarium that is generated between the pasture and the road. In our case we saw almost a dozen in the short trip. You may also come across boas, peccaries or deer. 

From Carlos Pellegrini to Portal Galarza, there are not so many stones but there are very deep tracks left by trucks and tractors that can complicate the traffic if the car is low. If it rains, as in the Mercedes-Carlos Pellegrini section, taming the road will be almost impossible and it is advisable to let at least one day pass before taking the risk of driving on one side of the ruts. 

In short, enjoy the adventure because if anything happens, it is customary to help. And, in case of rain, as the sign on the route says, avoid the traffic even if you feel like it.
