Patio San Francisco

Nothing like enjoying the best view

In the heart of Salta city, inside San Francisco Convent, a beautiful patio is the perfect place for those who want to enjoy delicious gastronomy and the best local wines, with a superlative view of the highest bell tower in South America.

This is Patio San Francisco. Its name says it all because it is much more than a restaurant. It is a place for the delight of those who love architecture and history.

In the mornings and afternoons, it offers a cafeteria and tea service, accompanied by natural juices and smoothies with fresh fruits. For lunch and dinner, it offers a fresh variation of regional food, along with innovative salads, grilled meals and cheeses, where the provoleta is always the favorite of @tripticity_. Its desserts include those typical of grandmothers' recipes such as ambrosia, huevos quimbos and turrón salteño (nougat from Salta).

A minute's walk from 9 de Julio Square, right next to the Basilica Menor San Francisco, one of the main tourist attractions of the province, Patio is not only a treat to the distinguished proposal of its cuisine, but also a temptation to go and have a direct contact with history, since it is located in one of the most relevant sites of the city, on a plot of land designed by its founder, Hernando de Lerma. Further back in time, it was in this catholic temple built by the Sevillian Fray Vicente Muñoz where the mass in honor of the victors and vanquished of the conclusive Salta battle took place, hours after February 20, 1813. Testimony of the fight for the independence, the basilica conserves the Bell of the Homeland, because it was melted with the bronze of the cannons used in the combat.

Going to Patio San Francisco is also an invitation to visit the small but very interesting museum of the Convent, where religious works and relics are exhibited. If you choose to climb the bell tower you get tremendous views of the city, the valley and its hills.

In spite of the traffic, in the patio you can feel the calm of the convent. It is enough to enter through its old cancel door to perceive that peace that invites to relax, while appreciating the huge view of the bell tower and the terracotta and ivory convent, with all the ornamentation of the religious complex.

In addition to the architectural appeal of Patio San Francisco, @tripticity_ values its commitment to promote local products. Thus, its wine list is made up exclusively of labels from Salta and its menu highlights the typical dishes of the regional recipe book. The trio of empanadas combines the traditional meat and cheese empanadas with a quinoa variant.

The humita en chala presented in a clay casserole to keep it warm was one of our favorites, although the tamale also stood out. Of course, the spicy sauce of the empanada also accompanied these delicacies.

For desserts, we chose a more seasonal variation such as pears with malbec and ice cream and a more succulent one, a reversion of the Russian imperial, a sponge cake with dulce de leche, cream and crunchy meringues. A delicious bomb.

The wine? Impossible not to go, with so much tradition and history a few meters away, with a typical torrontés, well but well chilled.

The manufacturing of the juices and appetizers is superlative, as well as its presentation, colorful, full of details achieved with fresh aromatics.

Patio San Francisco, for its strategic location, excellent view and distinguished gastronomy is one of those places that make @tripticity_ feel the Salta pride that characterizes us so much.
