Museum of Marquis of Tojo's Estate House

Stories and legends

The house of the Marquis of Yavi, converted into a provincial museum, has a modest but very valuable exhibition of seventeenth century furniture, mostly brought from Europe by its owner, as well as some replicas of works of the Cuzco school of painting, the most important in Latin America.

There are seven rooms open to the public and a popular library in which takes place a well-known story of the writer from Salta, Héctor Tizón, called El Ingenioso Hidalgo de Yavi (The Ingenious Hidalgo of Yavi). For those who are interested, here is a link to the story that originated a commando coup in 2001. Fact? Fiction? We will never know...

The museum also preserves a carriage and old everyday items.

The colonial-style mansion, built around a huge square courtyard, is supported by original walls almost a meter thick. At the main entrance, an archway that connects to the central courtyard takes all the attention.

Its strategic location, right next to the beautiful church of San Francisco de Asis, makes this complex the beating heart of the silent adobe village.
