Vine and Wine Museum
An interpretation center about its history and production
Salta's high altitude wines are famous, being those of Cafayate one of the most distinguished. Their tannat is @tripticity_'s favorite variety after the distinguished pinot noir.
A visit to a museum is always a program, so we did not hesitate to check out the exhibition proposed by the Museo de la Vid y el Vino, in one of the many trips to the city of the sun.
More than a museum, it is an exhibition center, where they try to inform the visitor about the manufacture and elaboration of the beverage, telling the importance of the natural elements that define it, such as the terroir, the altitude, the sun and the corresponding thermal amplitude at night.
It also informs about the different grape varieties produced in the Calchaquí Valleys.
Well maintained in general, it is surprising that an entire exhibition room is empty or that some of the video projectors are not working. Or that objects from one room appear in another in an unusual way, such as the figure of a capybara that appeared "sleeping" in a wine cellar, or a puma hidden among barrels. A beautiful canvas of a grape harvest scene is only accompanied by a sign asking "do not touch".
The favorite area is undoubtedly the one where the old bottles of the first wineries are exhibited, where there are also relics related to harvesting, fermentation and aging of the vine.
At the exit, in the central courtyard, barrels intervened by local artists were placed.
Although we were not dazzled, the quick visit in the solitude and tranquility of the early hours of the morning was a good start to the day, and then we enjoyed the sublime breakfast at the Hotel Asturias a few meters from the museum.
