Hotel Termas Spa & Golf
An oasis in Rosario de la Frontera
Nine marvelous hot springs of thermal waters motivated the creation of this historic hotel, immersed in a beautiful natural environment a few kilometers from Rosario de la Frontera.
Historians say that the establishment was the first thermal spa in Argentina. Founded by the Spanish doctor Antonio Palau in 1880, it is nourished by waters that emanate at different temperatures, from 25 to 99 degrees Celsius, highlighting the siliceous, sulfurous and ferruginous.
Soon after its creation, the hot springs became a center of national tourism. Nicolás Avellaneda, the first president to verify the quality of its waters, had the railroad network extended to there, with the beautiful Los Baños station (currently in a state of complete abandonment). This allowed it to gain the status of an aristocratic hotel, among whose illustrious visitors Domingo Faustino Sarmiento stood out. The native of San Juan, who stayed there in 1886 due to his respiratory problems, recounted in great detail the times of splendor of the hotel, with its telephone line, its Parisian-style dances and its theater shows.
"The Termas de Salta, well deserve the name, because according to the connoisseurs, they include the most singular, varied and strange collection of mineral waters, from cold to boiling eggs introduced in a handkerchief, and with dissolutions of iron some, of sulfur others, of salt, or of several baptized and analyzed salts, Vichy, Seltz...", wrote Sarmiento.
Today, much less pretentious, the hotel also offers tennis courts, bocce and nine-hole golf, as well as a therapeutic pool near the baths area and a larger one outside in a lower area.
On @tripticity_'s two-night getaway we tried all the relaxation options. First the immersion bath with four kinds of thermal waters (at a temperature of 35 to 37 degrees Celsius) in the old pavilion, ideal for muscle relaxation and activation of circulation. Then massages by José in the spa Armonía.
The next day, a sulfurous steam bath, which reaches a temperature of about 47 degrees Celsius, to detoxify and purify both the skin and bronchi; followed by the proposal of the "mud brush", a real natural exfoliation with earth mud and thermal water (at about 30 degrees Celsius) throughout the body to revitalize the skin. Next, another oriental massage in the spa of the great Monica Lozano.
The proposal is to maintain a fluid hydration with the three types of water available to guests: Constanza (with hepatic and biliary tract properties); Zarza (diuretic) and Laxative.
For meals, the Dorado room, reminiscent of the grandeur of its creation, with high ceilings, divided by an elegant colonnade, offers abundant options of both meats and pastas, with its now classic soup as a starter and the infallible flan with dulce de leche (a kind of caramel) and cream for dessert.
