Guachipas

Grandparents' town

Guachipas is one of the 23 districts of the province of Salta. It is located south of the capital city and is the often overlooked passage to Cafayate, its neighbor that gets the attention of travelers and tour guides.

My paternal great-grandfather settled in this small town a century ago, so visiting it is always a reason to stir my memories.

Domingo Domínguez, originally from Lebanon, first settled in Talapampa and then acquired farms in Finca Santa Elena and Las Juntas. He made his estate thanks to his efforts, as the notice published in the local newspaper after his death states: "The news has caused deep consternation, in different circles, because his person was highly appreciated for the honorable conditions he possessed... thanks to his attachment to work he was able to carve out a comfortable economic situation. Her propensity for good had no limits".

After visiting the cross that commemorates his tragic death while trying to ride a horse across the Guachipas River, we went to the Information Center of the rupestrian paintings of Paraje La Junta, which is located in the center of the town.

Guachipas has its main square, its characteristic school, and the Immaculate Conception Church. It is wide, with high ceilings and in its right transept rest the remains of father Mateo Apaza. It is said that whoever wants to find his true love, with a prayer to the priest will succeed in this arduous mission. Obviously, in all my visits to Guachipas I used to enter the oratory and fulfill the prayer... and today I can confirm its effectiveness.

To stay, Guachipas Golf Hotel Boutique offers high comfort and the best views of the surroundings. Even the Cabra Corral Dam can be seen in the distance.

In addition to the golf course, the manor house has an outdoor swimming pool on a balcony to contemplate the immensity of the landscape, as well as from its nine well-decorated rooms.

A must on any visit to the town is to try the local "Lugar Mágico" pastries. They are made of carob flour by the pastry chef Celeste Arreguez., one of the best in Salta! Raúl “Pájaro” Aguirre, our valuable guide when touring the cave paintings, suggested us that delicacy and they automatically became @tripticity_'s favorite.
