Isasmendi Winery

High altitude wines in a unique natural setting

This is a family-owned winery that produces authentic high altitude wines, just 5 minutes walk from the main square of Cachi.

During the afternoons there are guided tours and tastings. The landscape is surprising when you step into the typical large house with cream-colored walls and green doors. It simulates the frame of a work of art, with a background of hills, green vines on the first floor and a colonial patio that serves as a terrace, enhanced by a centenary molle tree in its center. It is a perfect setting. That view alone justifies the tour.

However, the experience continues with the passionate story of its owner, Sylvie Bonnal, who slowly narrates the history of the Isasmendi family and the estancia. The winery was founded in 2005 and the first winemaker was her father, Frenchman Jean Paul Bonnal. The original construction belonged to Arne Høygaard, a Norwegian doctor who settled in northern Argentina in the middle of the 20th century and started a small vineyard production.

His vineyards are located at 2,500 meters above sea level, very close to the Nevado de Cachi, which guarantees irrigation with pure spring water. In addition, in the Calchaquíes Valleys, the thermal amplitude generates that the fruit becomes more robust so its skin becomes thicker. All this enhances the aroma and flavor of the wines of the region.
